commets on a mock up

This is a questionnaire I came up with once I had made this mock up. I thought I would get some feed back to see if any of my ideas would be useful for my final product.

Here are the responses that I got to the questions:

What do you think to the layout of the magazine? (Is it easy to read?)

  • looks pretty easy to read and I like the stripey background at the top

  • its not to crowded

  • good because it looks like a music magazine because of the music related items in the picture

  • yes it is east to read

  • I think that it is very affective as the stories don't hinder the main picture

  • The plain background of the image makes the text easy to read
  • its simple and I tend to prefer more busy layouts but I like this one because it's easy to read & doesn't have too much going on

What do you think of the colour scheme that I have used?

  • looks good. I like how it matches the colours of the cover photo

  • really good because its bright but subtle

  • the colour scheme works very well as you have mixed together simple vibrant colours which makes the magazine interesting but not over powering
  • i think a few colours is a good idea as long as there's not too many

Is there anything else that you would like to add? (Good/bad points)

  • The white lines look a bit strange around the titles, but other than that it is really good

  • more information is needed about what is inside

  • good points: each person in picture is adding a element of music and fashion & it isn't too cluttered

  • bad points: no issue number or date. That's it.
  • I like the very top line claiming it's the UK's best selling mag as sometimes a reputation can make you buy a magazine

I used a website to get some ideas for my magazines name. I then asked people in my class which they thought were the most appropriate.
These were the results:
1. got 1 vote
2. got 2 votes
3. got 1 vote
4. got 1 vote
5. got 1 vote
6. got 2 votes
7. got 8 votes
8. got 3 votes
9. got 2 votes
After collecting this information I have decided to go with the majority vote and have chosen to use font 7. I also think that this will go well with the rest of the ideas I have for my magazine cover.

mock up

This is a mock up that I have come up with. I wanted to try some ideas and test them out. I altered the colour schemes and fonts before I got to this.

magazine names

I gave a list of suitable magazine names to various people. Only 4 of the list I produced got any votes and these are the results:

  • Phunkkk - 8
  • Bounce - 3
  • Quake - 1
  • BOOM - 2

from my results I have decided to go with the majority and call my magazine Phunkkk.

Preliminary Product - Front Cover.

This the front cover to my preliminary project.

I have used fairly plain bold type phase for my masthead as it is a school magazine and I thought it would be conventional to use it. It is graduated blue colour as that what fits into my colour scheme of yellow, black and blue. Against the black background it really stands out as so gets the audience's attention.

I have used a fairly simple font so that it is clear and obvious.

The main image is to go with the main story and I surrounded the image I made with a yellow border to make it stand out and to tie in with the colour scheme.

The mast head follows the colour scheme and i altered the colours to make it more attractive. Incorporated the school logos to make it clear that it is a school magazine.
